Hollywood Stars 1950 Baseball Program

This is a piece of Los Angeles PCL history. The Fairfax District in Los Angeles was where it was at in the 40’s and 50’s and Gilmore Field was right in the middle of things. Hollywood Celebrities would often be seen at Hollywood Stars games. Check out Stars Manager Fred Haney and his 1950 squad. Herb Gorman led the Stars to the pennant the previous season and has a feature on page 4.  Lefty O’Doul’s San Francisco Seals are featured on page 10. They were to be the opponent in the seasons’ last home stand. Interestingly, famous Los Angeles Dodgers souvenir/concessions guru, Danny Goodman was selling baseball in Hollywood before the Dodgers moved to town. Lastly, a feature on George Schmees and how he broke into the “Twinks” lineup with a bang against the Portland Beavers. He had a home run, a triple and a double.

It’s missing the center scorecard section, and the cover is barely hanging on.
