Los Angeles Rams 1966 Program 3-Pack

The NFL featured a set of programs featuring David Boss paintings commissioned for the 1966 NFL season. Check out the link for a gallery of the program covers he illustrated. I had a poster of the Rams Roman Gabriel on my wall as a kid. This era had several excellent sports illustrators as color photography wasn’t as popular or graphic at the time.

The Los Angeles Rams 1966 Program 3-Pack includes the following game Programs. Each game program features the following day’s Los Angeles Times game story to bring these games back to life.

October 30th, 1966 Los Angeles Rams vs Baltimore Colts Program.
Before 57,898 sunbaked fans at the Los Angeles Coliseum, the Colts Johnny Unitas threw for 252 yards in the Colts 17-3 victory to move past Y.A. Tittle as the NFL’s All-time passing leader.

November 13th, 1966 Los Angeles Rams vs New York Giants Program.
A small gathering of 34,746 gracious Los Angeles Coliseum fans watched the Rams wallop the Giants 55-14. Roman Gabriel completed 24 of 35 passes for 298 yards and 2 touchdowns, additionally, he ran in 2 TD’s himself on 1 yard sneaks.

September 16th, 1966 Los Angeles Rams vs Chicago Bears Program.
58,916 fans at the Los Angeles Coliseum watched the Rams hold off the Bears 31-17. A late interception and 33 yard touchdown run back to seal it with a minute left. Legendary Bears coach/owner George Halas wouldn’t shake the hand of Rams coach George Allen after the game. Halas had a grudge against Allen for daring to to leave Halas’s staff as defensive coach to assume the head coach at the Rams.
