The end of the Dark Ages was upon us. Major League Soccer was ready to kick off. You bet I was there to see soccer history.

Over 31,000 fans packed Spartan Stadium in San Jose to witness this event. The game was pretty exciting but went to OT tied at zero—not what the league founders wanted for the Inaugural, but Eric Wynalda came through for the Clash with a beautiful overtime strike.
