What ever happened to the San Diego Hawks minor league hockey team that played at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1978 and 1979?

The Hawks actually were a pretty good effort at pro hockey. Had there been more stable western teams to form a league they might have lasted. After the Hawks pro hockey did not return to San Diego for over a decade, until the IHL Gulls began operation in 1990-91.
