This issue kicks off with a big match-up at the Los Angeles Coliseum between George Best’s Aztecs and the visiting San Jose Earthquakes. Tragically, the “crowds” were so lost in the massive stadium.

“When Pele’s Gone” Looks into the future of the North American Soccer League (NASL). Interesting to us is, all the strong markets listed are still strong in their respective leagues. Teams like the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, Vancouver Whitecaps and San Jose Earthquakes trace rivalries and success stories to this era.

One of our favorite sections was Lynn Berling’s “Short Passes” that had little text-bites of up-to-date news. Remember, the daily newspapers never really covered these leagues much so we got our information from publications like Soccer America.
