In this issue, the cover shot is classic Kyle Rote Jr. action, the Dallas Tornado vs Vancouver Whitecaps. That game is featured later in the magazine with a full recap and box scores.

ASL West Coast fans had lost yet another team. The Santa Barbara Condors folded mid-season.

We find it very interesting that league commissioner Phil Woosnam was having regrets about Portland’s smaller capacity stadium for Soccer Bowl ’77. (Of course, that Soccer Bowl 1977 went on to be the most classic of all NASL Finals. The crowd in Portland was electric and Pele went out as a NASL Champion.)

One of our favorite sections was Lynn Berling’s “Short Passes” that had little text-bites of up-to-date news. Remember, the daily newspapers never really covered these leagues much so we got our information from publications like Soccer America.
