“NASL Notebook” gave fans the news they couldn’t find in newspapers. “ASL Action” did the same for the second circuit.

Miro Rys was a teenage wonder kid who burst onto the scene with the Chicago Sting. Tragically, Miro was killed in an automobile accident in Germany, where he was about to become the first American ever to play in the Bundesliga.

The leagues first American superstar, Kyle Rote Jr., was reaching the twilight of his career and had a nice write-up. Additionally, there’s a sidebar announcing Ron Newman’s return to the NASL after conquering the ASL with the Los Angeles Skyhawks.

An extensive feature on the upcoming Argentina ’78 is fascinating. Future NASL stars like Franz Beckenbauer and Johann Cruyff are shown battling for their respective countries (West Germany and Holland). Other future NASL stars featured are Georgio Chinaglia, Gerd Muller and Mexico’s Leonardo Cuellar.

USSoccer was barely on the world’s radar at the time. Los Angeles Times soccer writer Grahame L. Jones interviews Walt Chyzowitz on his plans on making America a soccer power.

USA vs Mexico fans should be curious about the World Cup preliminary played before Los Angeles’s largest soccer crowd ever at the Coliseum, 33,171, probably 98% rooting for Mexico.

Moving further along, a feature on the return to England (Fulham FC) of NASL Prodigals George Best, Rodney Marsh and Bobby Moore. Their presence boosted attendance at Fulham and throughout the 2nd division.

Finally, a historical look back at Eastern League Soccer has priceless stories on soccer in the United States in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
