SKU: 00502DCSouthern Southern California Sun 1975 Program
This program was from a Tuesday July 14th, 1975 exhibition game between the Sun and the Memphis Southmen. Southern California whipped Memphis 47-16. The Southmen featured ex Miami Dolphins Jim Kiick, Larry Csonka and Paul Garfield—the biggest signings in league history.
The Southern Southern California Sun were a World Football League team that played both the 1974 and 1975 seasons. They were 13-7 in 1974 and 7-5 in the shortened 1975 season. They played at Anaheim Stadium and were coached by former Rams great and Hall of Famer Tom Fears. The team drew national attention for their (at the time) outlandish Sambo’s Orange and Pink uniforms (Sam Battistone, owner of the Sambo’s restaurant chain also owned the Sun).
Former USC greats Anthony Davis and Pat Haden played for the Sun in 1975 along with former Oakland Raiders QB Daryle Lamonica, also known as the “Mad Bomber.”
