Kick Magazine July 19th, 1980

This Kick Magazine July 19th, 1980 issue was the game program for the San Diego Sockers vs Tampa Bay Rowdies game in San Diego.

When Ron Newman signed on as the Sockers head coach he brought a special player with him from the Miami Americans—Manu Sanon—The Haitian Sensation. He was all-that as he thrilled fans and invigorated the Sockers offense.

Even bigger news was the signing of a young Mexican star, Hugo Sanchez, to a contract that bound him to the Sockers instead of his Mexican club Pumas. Sanchez had joined the Sockers late in the 1979 season and was the playoffs leading scorer and playoff MVP runner-up. The Sockers season ended in overtime of the mini-game (as far as you can get without actually getting to the Soccer Bowl).

Sanchez plus Sanon equalled a 3-0 thrashing of the always tough Tampa Bay Rowdies before 13,559 fans.
