Willie O’Ree Blades Glossy Photo

This original 1963-64 Los Angeles Blades WHL team-issued highly glossy photo is 8 1/8 inches by 10 inches and features Willie O’Ree, the first man of African descent to play in the NHL (National Hockey League) when he suited up for the Boston Bruins.  Although Willie O’Ree would only play two games in the NHL for the Boston Bruins, he would go on to an extremely successful career in professional hockey with teams such as the Los Angeles Blades and the San Diego Gulls and Hawks. During the 1963-64 season, Willie O’Ree led the Los Angeles Blades to the WHL (Western Hockey League) finals where they were narrowly defeated by the San Francisco Seals in a six game series.
