The Omni Atlanta Souvenir Dedication Book

The Omni in Atlanta, GA was completed in 1972. It was an indoor arena and part of the Omni Complex in downtown Atlanta. The NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and NHL Atlanta Flames called it home. Later the Flames moved to Calgary (despite having pretty good attendance numbers in Atlanta). On July 26, 1997, the Omni was demolished. Now Philips Arena sits on the former site of the Omni since 1999.

This Special Dedication Edition was published when the new multi-purpose stadium put Atlanta (and the South) into the Major Leagues. The Milwaukee Braves were enticed enough to leave for greener pastures in Atlanta. The Atlanta Falcons were a new NFL expansion team. They finished 3-11 their expansion year but they weren’t the worst team in the league, that honor went to the 1-12-1 New York Giants.
