San Diego Conquistadors Team Button

The Conquistadors (Q’s) played in the ABA starting in 1972. The Q’s were the ABA’s first and only expansion team. Given the NBA San Diego Rockets had recently relocated to Houston, the ABA offered the city an expansion franchise in exchange for a $1 million entry fee.

I remember seeing the longest ABA game in history against the Nets featuring Dr. J and what a privilege it was to see him play. Their 20,000 seat Chula Vista Arena proposition lost out by under 300 votes. San Diego’s basketball History sure could have been different if it passed.
